What is Free Art Friday?
Free Art Friday is a relatively new art movement that’s rapidly gaining in popularity around the World. Artists create a painting, sketch, sculpture or installation and leave it on the street. The piece can then be picked up by anyone and claimed as their own. Finders are encouraged to email the artist and tell them how and where they found it. See www.freeartfriday.com
Who’s behind it?
See About us page here
Why should I give away my work for free?
Why not? Art doesn’t need a price tag to affect people. Artist Adam Neate gave away 1000 pieces of work last November and still his work sells for up to £43,000 per piece.
What do I have to do to get involved?
See ‘Get Involved‘ page
How will people get my work?
Your work along with dozens of other artists will be hung on railings, left on windows ledges, placed on seats of trains. etc. Basically, all hung or placed in any areas where public has access to. Imagine the city as one giant gallery, where anyone can admire or own the work.
How will people know that they can take it?
They won’t, They may just want to admire it. If they pick it up and turn it over. Then they will see the ‘Free Art Friday’ label on back that you filled out and put there.
Who will place the work on the streets
We have put together a team of people that will place the work on the streets on Friday 23rd January. The work will be hung in three waves
Morning 6am – 8am (free art for commuters), Afternoon – Noon till 2pm and Evening – 5pm – 7pm
What if I want to hang my own work?
That’s great, we’d like that. Feel free to hang you work in a public place on the 23rd January 2009, retreat to a safe distance and watch people admire it/take it. Just remember to put a this label on the back so they can thank you.
